Staff Bios


David Cella, PhD 
Dr. David Cella serves as the President of FACIT.org and the Chief Scientific Officer of FACIT.org and FACITtrans. Dr Cella is an international expert in health outcomes research, with a specific emphasis on the measurement, analysis and interpretation of patient-centered outcome measures, including measures of health-related quality of life. In addition to being the developer of the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) Measurement System, Dr. Cella is also Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.Dr. Cella has focused his career studying questions regarding quality of life measurement in clinical trials, cross-cultural equivalence of quality of life measurement, efficacy of psychosocial interventions in oncology and other chronic conditions, and medical outcomes research. He has served as Principal Investigator on many federally-funded grants and contracts to study questions regarding quality of life measurement in clinical trials, cross-cultural equivalence of quality of life measurement, efficacy of medical and psychosocial interventions, and studies of the burden of illness, and comparative effectiveness research.Dr. Cella’s pioneering research with FACIT tool development, language translation, and psychometric measurement advances has served as the backbone for his participation and leadership in several National Institutes of Health measurement projects including PROMIS, Neuro-QoL and the NIH Toolbox.  Dr. Cella is a member of numerous scientific organizations, including the International Society for Quality of Life Research, the International Society for Pharmacoeconomic and Outcomes Research, the American Psychological Association, the Society for Behavioral Medicine, the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Cella has served on numerous patient reported outcomes and person centered care advisory panels. He has published over 600 peer-reviewed publications in the area of quality-of-life measurement in clinical trials and clinical practice.

Lauren Lent, DHA, MS
Lauren Lent, DHA, MS, serves as the Executive Director of FACIT.org and the President of FACITtrans. Both roles are based on scientific and business relationships established during Lauren’s longstanding role as Dr. Cella’s senior administrator while in academia. FACIT.org continues to work closely with our scientific colleagues at Northwestern University, permitting clients immediate access to a wide array of interdisciplinary expertise in cutting-edge health status research services honed through a wide array of federally-funded (NIH) and pharmaceutically-sponsored investigations. Together with Dr. Cella, Benjamin Arnold and Jason Bredle, Lauren feels privileged to serve in a leadership role as we continue to build FACIT.org and FACITtrans to be responsive to the needs of patients, clients, the field of health outcomes research, and our employees. Lauren holds a Bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Florida, with a minor in French. She also holds a Master’s of Science degree in Health Systems Management from Rush Medical University in Chicago, and a Doctorate of Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina. Lauren is a passionate fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, SEC sports, and spending time at the beach where she grew up near St. Augustine, Florida.
Jason Bredle Jason Bredle, MFA Jason Bredle, MFA coordinates the translation and formatting operations for FACITtrans and manages the licensing and distribution of the FACIT measurement system for FACIT.org. He's a member of the American Translators Association (ATA) and has co-presented three times at ATA conferences. He is principal author of an article on translation equivalence published in the ATA Chronicle, a summary paper on the FACIT-Sp in the journal Religions, and has co-authored poster presentations for both the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and the Oncology Nursing Society Conference on Cancer Nursing Research. In addition to studying Mexican literature and history at the Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico, he has a certificate in producing multilingual documentation from the Localization Industry Standards Association (LISA), and earned an MFA in creative writing from the University of Michigan and a BA in English literature and Spanish from Indiana University.
Ben Arnold
Ben Arnold, MA
Ben Arnold, MA is the Director of FACITtrans. He and his team have been responsible for coordinating and managing the translation and linguistic validation of over 50 FACIT questionnaires into over 60 languages and delivering high quality translations of other Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO) measures used in multilingual clinical trials. This group is also the principal translation resource for several large federally-sponsored NIH research initiatives, including PROMIS, Toolbox, NeuroQol, PROCTCAE and peds PROCTCAE. Mr. Arnold is a member of the American Translators Association (ATA), the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL) and the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). He has conducted workshops in multiple languages on translation and cross-cultural issues at conferences worldwide and is the Latin American presence for FACITtrans, residing in Fortaleza, Brazil. Mr. Arnold holds an MA in Multicultural and Corporate Communication from DePaul University, Chicago and a BA in Spanish (Linguistics) with a minor in Portuguese from the University of Arizona.

Luke Pickard Luke Pickard Luke Pickard joined Dr. Cella's team in November of 2006, helping to integrate and support multiple software products. He continues to serve as the System Administrator for FACITtrans and maintains our current technological configuration. In addition to his technical certifications, Luke earned his B.B.A. in Management Information Systems from the University of Mississippi. In his free time, he enjoys photography, SEC football, playing softball, flag football, guitar and piano.
Shannon Romo
Shannon Romo
Shannon Romo has managed the bookkeeping and client/vendor tracking for FACITtrans and FACIT.org since the fall of 2011.  Since late 2013 she has, as Assistant Business Manager, helped coordinate and manage the licensing and distribution of the FACIT measurement system for FACIT.org.  Her previous work experience includes working as an accounting specialist with a high volume commodities trading group at New Edge USA and Prudential Securities. Shannon has an extensive background in international corporate client relations and compliance. In her spare time she enjoys travel, cooking, making cocktails and trying new restaurants.
