TRANSLATION PROJECT OVERVIEW

The FACIT Translation Project has developed a scientific approach to translation of patient reported outcomes measures which includes a rigorous methodology, psychometric testing, and cognitive interviewing. This process was developed to ensure that the resulting measures are both conceptually equivalent as well as cross-culturally valid thus facilitating data pooling in multinational clinical trials for regulatory submission.

The FACIT Translation Project was initiated to fulfill a need for valid and reliable quality of life (QOL) assessment instruments in languages other than English as part of the FACIT Measurement System. The translation methodology developed for the FACIT project has proven to be successful in adapting questionnaires into languages ranging from Western European, to Eastern European, to Asian and African. The list of languages keeps growing, keeping pace with the globalization of medical research and practice.

The FACIT Translation Project has allowed the FACIT Measurement System to extend worldwide:
  • Collaborators in more than 50 countries use these measures in their research and clinical practice.
  • Over 40 companies have used translated FACIT measures in over 100 clinical trials.

Moving Beyond FACIT:
Since 1998, the project has undertaken the translation of at least 40 non-FACIT questionnaires in an ever-expanding array of languages and new disease areas.

We have developed expertise in areas including urological disorders, mood disorders, kidney disease, neurological disorders, women's health, utility measures, and many others.

Resources:
Our expertise combines the linguistic experience of our translation teams and staff with the research experience of our collaborative network, resulting in an ideal combination of art and science in translation. We currently have:
  • Over 500 translators in Europe, North, South and Central America, Asia and Africa.
  • Over 170 collaborators in over 50 countries spanning Europe, North, South and Central America, Asia, Africa and Australia, who participate in our testing process.
  • In-house language expertise in: Spanish, Portuguese (Continental and Brazilian), Hungarian, French, Polish and Russian.
