TRANSLATION OF NON-FACIT PATIENT-REPORTED OUTCOMES MEASURESSince 1998, we have undertaken the translation of non-FACIT measures in addition to FACIT questionnaires under the auspices of the FACIT Translation Project. The FACIT translation methodology remains the process by which we prefer to conduct translations of any patient reported outcomes (PRO) measure because it allows us to develop conceptually equivalent measures of psychometric instruments through a rigorous yet streamlined process. However, we also respect the fact that developers of other PRO measures may require other methodologies be followed, so we do our best to be flexible, working with the developer to achieve an appropriate translation. Non-FACIT PRO measures have included the KDQOL, ADLs, EQ-5D, Q-LES-Q and many others. The subject matter of the non-FACIT translations has included urological disorders, mood disorders, kidney disease, neurological disorders, women's health, utility measures, sexual functioning and more. We have enjoyed the challenge of gaining expertise in new disease areas, which has enhanced our considerable expertise in cancer and HIV/AIDS within the FACIT System. We seek to develop valid and culturally relevant translations of the non-FACIT measures, which have the same high quality as our work within the FACIT Measurement System. The majority of these translations are done for clients who plan to use these measures in clinical trials, while other cases involve translations to be used in federally-funded research grants and cooperative group studies.
